Do you carefully check employment references on prospective hires?

King Solomon wrote, "The naive believes everything" (Proverbs 14:15 NASB).

Some folks make a great impression during an interview, but the interview gives only part of the story. The best predictor of future performance is past performance. Call past references, ask for others with whom the person worked, and call them. Ask about reliability, teamwork, and integrity. Dig deep, and ask follow up questions. References may be the key to your hiring process. The time you invest on checking references will pay great dividends as you hire a great business team.
