Do you maintain business confidences?

King Solomon wrote, "He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets" (Proverbs 11:13 NASB).

We may have confidential information, such as future business plans, pricing, or that a colleague may be dismissed. Keeping your mouth shut is a key to maintaining trust with your boss. In the past, I have found some excellent managers who were unable to keep quiet about private matters. The result was that I never again discussed confidential information with them, and I was much less likely to promote them in the future. When in doubt, keep quiet. Trustworthiness will contribute to future success.
