When listening to customers, listen beyond the words being said. A key element of listening is watching the nonverbal communication.

Focus on the speaker. Carefully observe the body language and facial expressions. Watch the eyes. The look in the eyes will either confirm the words said by your customer or tell you there is a lot more to be said. Focus on total communication with customers, and never receive unexpected bad news.

In the Word
